Schubert's "Great" Symphony, his final completed symphony, unfolds along winding musical paths with what Robert Schumann famously described as "heavenly lengths." Breaking away from classical conventions, Schubert embraces a new sense of freedom in a work where time seems suspended, inviting the audience to savour every moment of the concert.
The brilliant violinist Sarah Nemtanu, the perfect guide for this musical ascent, performs Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3. Combining power and delicacy, virtuosity and poetry, she captures the remarkable balance between technical brilliance and expressive depth. Composed at the height of French Romanticism and dedicated to the Spanish violin virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate, this concerto is a celebration of freedom, with every note seemingly suspended between earth and sky.
