The dazzling violinist Sarah Nemtanu, the ideal guide for this ascent, performs Saint-Saëns’s Violin Concerto No. 3. With power and delicacy, virtuosity and poetry, she embodies this high tension between the taut string and the sweep of the gesture. Composed at the height of French Romanticism and dedicated to the Spanish violinist Pablo de Sarasate, this concerto is an ode to freedom, where every note seems suspended between heaven and earth.
