The Châtelaillon-Plage Tourist Office invites you to learn more about the creation of the giant mural covering the interior of the Sainte Madeleine Church in Châtelaillon-Plage! Created by Amaury Dubois in 2020 as part of the renovation project initiated by Mr. Jean-Louis Léonard (mayor of Châtelaillon-Plage from 1984 to 2020), the colorful mural continues to elicit reactions of surprise and wonder from those who step inside the church. However, the merits of this marvel of form and painting go beyond its shimmering colors. The artist’s work actually conceals a rich symbolism closely tied to the history and unique character of the church—a symbolism that is essential to understand in order to appreciate the work as a whole. With the goal of sharing the various dimensions of this work with as many people as possible, the Châtelaillon-Plage Tourist Office has developed an audio tour for anyone who wishes to learn more about the Church of Sainte Madeleine. Come pick up your kit at the Tourist Office and head over to the church! Once there, play the track on your audio guide and embark on a 20-minute journey through art and history to learn more about this church, which has been restored with refinement and a unique touch. The church is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
