CUBA
Hasta Siempre
A film directed and presented by Nicolas Pellissier
We think we know Cuba. We believe we have seen it a thousand times before: American classic cars, pastel-coloured façades, salsa, rum, cigars… and the enduring shadows of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara.
But behind the postcard image, the island is struggling. Today, Cuba is experiencing one of the most difficult periods in its history. The American embargo, economic collapse, power outages and widespread shortages have left an entire society searching for a way forward. In Havana, the Viñales Valley, Trinidad, Santiago de Cuba, and even the remote regions of Baracoa and Bayamo, the faces of the people reveal another reality: that of a dignified, resourceful population, exhausted but still standing.
This film does not sell a myth. It journeys through history to better understand the present. It gives a voice to those living through the painful, uncertain and sometimes dramatic transition of a system that has reached its limits.
Caught between revolutionary memory and hopes for the future, Cuba emerges as an island at a turning point. Cuba no longer simply dances. It endures. And it looks back at us.
