On Christmas Eve, the whole family gathers around Bernadette, a colourful matriarch who dotes on her sons—especially her "youngest little boy".
The evening begins as it always does, with the three brothers teasing and arguing, each still competing for their mother's affection despite their age.
But an unexpected announcement turns dinner upside down and sends one of the brothers into a rage. He decides to step out to buy a packet of cigarettes to calm down.
The hours go by, but he never comes back.
Five years later, as the family raises a toast in his memory, he suddenly reappears, convinced he has only been gone for five minutes...
