Classical, Romantic and contemporary, this timeless voyage puts the cello in the spotlight. Star soloist Anne Gastinel, 36 years after her last concert with the orchestra, reunites with the musicians under the baton of young Italian conductor Nicolò Umberto Foron.
Together, they give voice to Robert Schumann's Concerto in A minor (1850), a virtuoso work with surprising tempos. Between haunting harmonies and delicate silences, this emblem of the Romantic repertoire promises a unique experience where time seems to stand still. This theme of "suspended time" is central to Instants d'éternité (2020), the latest orchestral work by contemporary composer Allain Gaussin: "Like [the astronomer] scrutinizing our starry sky with the naked eye for long nights to decipher its enigmas, I myself have tried to express through music my own vision of this great and beautiful starry vault". Ludwig van Beethoven's timeless Symphony No. 1 (1800) completes this suspended program. Traditional in the wake of Haydn and Mozart, it already reveals a Beethovenian genius ready to assert itself and make its mark on history. Three musical nuggets that invite us to defy time.
