Jean Maillet, our local Bernard Pivot

Born in Saintes, Jean Maillet is a writer with a passion for etymology. He is the author of numerous books on the French language, published by "Albin Michel" and "de l'Opportun". Interested in a playful approach to our language, he invented the board game "Etymos", the demented game of the word demon, published by J.T.S in 2003. "Etymos" immediately won the gold medal at the Lépine competition (Salon international du jeu et du jouet), then, still in 2003, first prize at the Salon aquitaine de l'invention and a bronze medal at the Mondial de l'invention.

In 1982, Jean Maillet became a professional baroque musician. He was engaged by Philippe Herreweghe (La Chapelle Royale), William Christie (Les Arts Florissants), Jean-Claude Malgoire (La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy), and others. With these ensembles, he has made some forty recordings, taken part in numerous tours around the world and performed at the greatest international festivals.

He is also the founder of the baroque music ensemble "Mensa Sonora", made up of professional musicians working on period instruments. With "Mensa Sonora", Jean Maillet is recording the world premiere of 10 CDs devoted to "yet-to-be-discovered" Baroque composers (Graupner, Cazzati, Jarzebski, Rosenmüller, etc.).

Jean Maillet also took part in the filming of Stephen Frears' "Liaisons dangereuses" and Alain Corneau's "Tous les matins du monde".
